Well, it was only over a week ago that George Lucas' mammoth epic The Trailer to Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace, hit theaters.
As a die hard fan I have of course gone to see it nine times already.
The Trailer to Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace, (hence forth simply known as The Trailer), starts off slowly with an opening narrative which leaves the viewer wondering and curious to see what happens next. Soft music, reminiscent of earlier Star Wars trailers plays and you think to yourself, well, I guess I'm in for a pretty easy going trailer. And just then the music blasts out really loud and exciting and there's an image of being zoomed at a great speed over a rocky desert!
Wow, the next few seconds are exciting and full of speeding spaceships and weird looking alien creatures. And not those realistic, even plausible, looking alien creatures that were crafted out of latex and foam in the first three Star Wars movies, but completely fake looking, computer generated monsters. It's great!
As the story progresses in The Trailer, we learn of this young kid who's going to grow up to become what looks like a major player in the Force. We also meet his mentor and that crazy muppet Yoda, who is actually very refreshing in that he still looks like a muppet. There're all kinds of high flying stunts and great humorous interludes like with this goofy looking digitized alien thing that looks like a cross between a giraffe, a frog and Goofy, gets his head zapped in some kind of lighting bolt. I gather the Goofy character is the token alien cast member, like Chewbacca was to the first movies.
(You know it never sat well with me that Chewbacca was completely buck naked except for a utility belt for three movies. He's the only civilized being strutting around nude; what's up with that? I mean Leia got progressively more naked throughout the trilogy but hey Carrie Fisher was the Hollywood starlet of the time; so it's justified that she needs to be exploited sexually movie industry, but I digress...)
The Trailer just keeps you on edge right up until the finale. Nothing but wall to wall excitement, masterful directing and editing on a solid cast. Don't wait for The Trailer to Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace, to come out on video; go see it as soon as you can in the theater for the full THX sound quality.
Wow, what a trailer; I think Star Wars fans of all ages have to go see it. It really ties up all the loose ends in the saga as a whole. Good luck Junior Jedis and may the Force be with you.
