Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti

I used to have this incredible Lloyds stereo system. It was fully equipped with a tinted dust cover and an 8 track player. My first and second to last eight track album was Physical Graffiti. This little system sounded very .... well it worked and I considered myself very lucky to have a stereo in my bedroom. Everyday before and after school I would crank tunes and everyday my Mom & Dad would politely request that I turn the music down. We lived in a duplex and the folks next door were very pleasant. Our families got along very well so I think my parents first concern was to avoid disturbing the neighbors too much.

In the summer of 75 we were preparing to leave for our routine summer vacation to visit family down east. This was a about a 12 hour drive and we were usually gone for about two weeks. I was packing my stuff and maintaining my morning routine. I really loved the song Kashmir and it was always better at 85% of max volume on this little system. While I ran around my room getting things packed I could see my Mom and Dad were ready to hit the road so I raced down and put my bags in the trunk and we were off.

We had a terrific time and arrived back in town two weeks later right on schedule. My Mom opened the door and looked back at me and my Dad. She then asked in a very concerned voice "what the heck is that noise?" "What is what?", I said as I leaned in the door of the house to hear the introduction to "In My Time Dying". I suddenly realized I had left the stereo blasting for two weeks with the 8 track looping. Later that evening there was a rather intense discussion about the stereo, privileges and responsibilities. I was told that I must contact our terrific neighbors and let them know how sorry I was for having been so inconsiderate and disrespectful. The next morning I dropped by the neighbors and discussed the weather, our freshly paved driveway and our vacation but they did not say a thing about the noise coming from the house while we were away so... neither did I. I am sure to this day that they heard it but they were way to nice to say anything and well if not saying anything makes you nice... I am a nice guy too, right?
